Beginning in 2008, the Museum of Inuit Art has acquired significant works through the generous sponsorship of Mr. Eric Sprott and the Sprott Acquisition Program. With this support, MIA has been able to add masterworks of Inuit art to enhance the diversity and scope of our collections.
Some of the highlights of the Sprott Collection include:
- Karoo Ashevak (1940-1974, Talujruak/Spence Bay): Spirit; c. 1970, whalebone and inlay, Sprott/MIA Collection
- Osuitok Ipeelee, RCA (1922-2005, Kinngait/Cape Dorset): Hawk With Lemming; c. 1975, stone, Sprott/MIA Collection
- Artist unidentified (Inukjuak): Mother and Child; c. 1950, stone and ivory, Sprott/MIA Collection
- Ennutsiak (1896-1967, Iqaluit): Women Preparing Food; c. 1960s, stone and ivory, Sprott/MIA Collection
